Mr. Galvan (Master G)Chemistry InstructorMr. Galvan is a High School Chemistry teacher at Temescal Canyon High School and is known by many on campus as "Master G" - and has 2 masters degrees in addition to his bachelors. Mr. Galvan has been the recipient of two Lois B. Krieger Water Grant through the Western Municipal Water District and the Assistance League of Temecula Teaching Grant. In 2016, Mr. Galvan was a finalist in the nationally acclaimed Knowles Science Teaching Fellowship. He has had the honor of being the recipient of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship. He was also the recipient of a SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union Teacher Scholarship. Mr. Galvan was also a nominee for the 2019 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching on behalf of the White House Office of Sciences and Technology Policy.
Mr. Galvan has received a Masters in Education from Stanford University through the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP), which was ranked #1 by US News and World Report as the Best Graduate School of Education in the United States. His training comes from some of the most prominent faculty in the Education field including Linda Darling-Hammond, former leader of President Barack Obama's education policy transition team. He retains current affiliation with Stanford post-graduation by serving yearly as a representative/ambassador of the Stanford University Office of Undergraduate Admissions and as a cooperating teacher mentor to newly admitted Stanford Teaching Candidates pursuing their credential program. Prior to Stanford, Mr. Galvan graduated with a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Virginia with an emphasis in Inorganic Chemistry. Mr. Galvan also graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a bachelor's degree in chemistry with departmental honors & ACS certification and a minor in educational studies. He was also a former co-teacher at Woodside High School in Northern California having taught Environmental Analysis Through Chemistry and AP Environmental Science. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at three higher education institutions: Fullerton Community College, Santiago Canyon Community College, and Chapman University. In addition, he developed and taught the Chemistry of Counterterrorism, an unprecedented chemistry university seminar while as an undergraduate student. Mr. Galvan traveled as a visiting chemistry researcher to the University of Wollongong in Australia, as well as had research appointments in the areas of explosives detection and nuclear forensics at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy. Mr. Galvan enjoys most of his "free" time playing drums for the jazz ensemble - the Sons of Thunder Big Band Machine - based in Anaheim, CA and plays for many charity-based events across Southern California including the "Light the Night" Run at Angels Stadium in September. Mr. Galvan loves attending both athletic and arts events including PAC-12 Football games (#GoCardinal #HomeofChampions) and Broadway productions. And yes, he is an avid Starbucks fanatic. Also, Mr. Galvan frequently and frugally travels during the breaks and summers - He has traveled to 28 US states and outside the U.S. to Canada & Mexico, Europe (Iceland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom), and Australia (Australia, New Zealand). |
